Dear Patients,

The Seymour Health Centre physicians are pleased to announce that they are still available to support your medical needs during this trying time.
While the clinic remains open to all primary care patients (including the walk-ins), we require everyone to call us at 604.738.2151 (West 7th) or 604.416.0181 (Hornby) before you come to the clinic. We will book an appointment time for you with one of our doctors. With this approach we are taking precautions to minimize the risk of infection to our staff and patients who need to come to see a doctor in person.
Your initial assessment or consultation will be done via telephone or virtual care. If the doctor determines that you need to be seen in person, you may be booked for an appointment at the clinic.
Please note that all patients with upper respiratory symptoms (cough, fever, sore throat, chills, chest tightness) are asked to attend the City Centre Urgent Primary Care Centre (UPCC) at 1290 Hornby Street. The UPCC is open Mon – Sat from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. and Sundays from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

No special preparation is required
For your own comfort, it is recommended that you wear loose clothing or outfits that are easily removed. For example, elastic waists or loose clothing may allow you to move it aside rather than removing the garment. Plain t-shirts are generally easier to move or slip in and out of. Wide pant legs or shorts are recommended if you are having a lower extremity x-ray. Layered clothing is suitable if you are having an upper extremity x-ray. Zippers, metal or jewelry will have to be removed, if possible, if covering the region of interest.

A valid and completed requisition form, signed and dated by your healthcare provider and a valid health care card with full name and date of birth is essential for your visit to ensure integrity and accuracy.
If health care card is forgotten or expired prior to the visit, we may ask for payment to process the ordered tests.
If test (s) not eligible for coverage under your health care card, we accept cash, visa, Mastercard, and debit card.


  • Fasting Required: Do not eat or drink (except water) for 8-12 hours before the following tests:
    • GLUCOSE - fasting
    • LIPIDS/CHOLESTEROL - if indicated
  • Note: Chewing gum and brushing teeth during the fasting period is acceptable.
  • AM Cortisol and Testosterone: Collect sample withing 3 hours of waking
  • PM Cortisol: Collect sample between 2:00pm to 8:00pm


Avoid oily or greasy skin creams and lotions the day of the test because they can keep the electrodes from contacting your skin.
Avoid full-length hosiery, because electrodes need to be placed directly on your legs.
Wear a shirt that you can remove easily to place the leads on your chest.

  • Specimen Acceptance and Rejection Criteria:

    Policy
    Seymour Health Centre is dedicated to maintaining sample integrity and test validation. Explicit sample and test request acceptance and rejection criteria are defined.

    Samples and test requests presented to the laboratory must meet the acceptance criteria or sample is rejected and testing is cancelled.

    Sample Rejection Policy
    This policy outlines the process used to identify a specimen as unsuitable for testing.

    Specimen integrity:
    Age of specimen
    Incorrect container used
    Specimen is hemolyzed, clotted, etc.
    Insufficient specimen to perform testing

    Specimen identification:
    Sample is not labelled with at least two positive patient identifiers
    An incomplete requisition including date and time of collection
    Sample not accompanied with a complete requisition
    Sample identity does not positively correlate with the requisition

    Specimen handling:
    Sample not transported under the correct conditions
    Sample not stored in the proper requirements
    Blood sample not collected in the correct order of draw
    Sample pose a possibility of contamination
    Sample leaking
    Exterior of container is grossly contaminated with the sample

    The patient will be asked to repeat the collection and ordering physician/health care provider may be notified.

All work in the Seymour Health Laboratory is performed either STAT or ROUTINE. All work ordered from the Urgent Patient Care Center (UPCC) is considered STAT unless indicated otherwise by the patient’s physician.
In the interest of efficient utilization of laboratory personnel and equipment, all laboratory tests performed in-house may be ordered STAT and reported out no longer than one (1) hour from receipt of specimen. Tests marked as ASAP will be processed within two (2) hours from receipt of specimen. Routine tests will have a turnaround time of one (I) working day, with the exception of those tests not performed in-house and sent to a reference lab.




This information is provided to assist our clients in collecting high quality specimens that meet integrity guidelines and ensure accurate test results.
