For patients with injuries and illnesses that should be addressed by a health care provider within 12 to 24 hours, but do not require the level of service or expertise found in an emergency department.
Please note that we may need to direct patients to an Emergency Department or other clinic depending on the level of care required and/or if capacity is reached after 8:30 pm (Monday to Saturday) and 3:30 pm on Sundays.

All patients are triaged and assessed based on the acuity of their health conditions. This means the sickest people are seen first even if you arrived before them.

To improve the health of the Vancouver community through convenient patient-centered urgent care services and partnerships with local primary healthcare professionals.
To create a compassionate and reliable setting where patients can access urgent care services in an efficient and effective manner for unexpected non-life-threatening illnesses or injuries.
To provide seamless care, we will provide and facilitate continuity of care between the primary urgent care center and the community.
Patient health records are shared seamlessly in a safe and secure manner between different parts of health and social care systems.
To provide prompt and exceptional urgent care services in a team based coordinated effort by competent and skilled health care professionals.
To assist in educating Vancouverites on how to navigate through Primary Health Care, facilitating a clear understanding of how to access the right type of care at the right time.
To facilitate the attachment of unattached Vancouverites to a General Practitioner supporting better health outcomes in our community.
I’m a PATIENT
A valid and completed requisition form signed and dated by your healthcare provider and a valid health care card with full name and date of birth is essential for your visit to ensure integrity and accuracy.
If health care card is forgotten or expired prior to the visit, we may ask for payment to process the ordered tests.
If the test(s) is not eligible for coverage under your health care card, we accept cash, visa, Mastercard, and debit card.
UPCC is fully covered by Medical Services Plan (MSP).
Fasting Required: Do not eat or drink (except water) for 8-12 hours before the following tests:
GLUCOSE – fasting
LIPIDS/CHOLESTEROL – if indicated
Note: Chewing gum and brushing teeth during the fasting period is acceptable.
AM Cortisol and Testosterone: Collect sample within three hours of waking
PM Cortisol: Collect sample between 2:00pm to 8:00pm
Avoid oily or greasy skin creams and lotions the day of the test because they can keep the electrodes from contacting your skin.
Avoid full-length hosiery, because electrodes need to be placed directly on your legs.
Wear a shirt that you can remove easily to place the leads on your chest.
Specimen Acceptance and Rejection Criteria:
Seymour Health Centre is dedicated to maintaining sample integrity and test validation. Explicit sample and test request acceptance and rejection criteria are defined.
Samples and test requests presented to the laboratory must meet the acceptance criteria or sample is rejected and testing is cancelled.

This policy outlines the process used to identify a specimen as unsuitable for testing.
Age of specimen
Incorrect container used
Specimen is hemolyzed, clotted, etc.
Insufficient specimen to perform testing
Sample is not labelled with at least two positive patient identifiers
An incomplete requisition including date and time of collection
Sample not accompanied with a complete requisition
Sample identity does not positively correlate with the requisition
Sample not transported under the correct conditions
Sample not stored in the proper requirements
Blood sample not collected in the correct order of draw
Sample pose a possibility of contamination
Exterior of container is grossly contaminated with the sample
The patient will be asked to repeat the collection and ordering physician/health care provider may be notified.

All work in the Seymour Health Laboratory is performed either STAT or ROUTINE. All work ordered from the Urgent Primary Care Centre (UPCC) is considered STAT unless indicated otherwise by the patient’s physician.
In the interest of efficient utilization of laboratory personnel and equipment, all laboratory tests performed in-house may be ordered STAT and reported out no longer than one (1) hour from receipt of specimen. See the list of tests available as STAT at Seymour Health UPCC Laboratory here. Tests marked as ASAP will be processed within two (2) hours from receipt of specimen. Routine tests will have a turnaround time of one (I) working day, with the exception of those tests not performed in-house and sent to a reference lab.

We are excited to share that Minister of Health Adrian Dix, along with partners from Vancouver Coastal Health, the Vancouver Division of Family Practice, the Ministry of Health BC, and the Seymour Health Centre officially announced the opening of City Centre Urgent Primary Care Centre (UPCC) in Vancouver. Seymour Health Centre will operate the new UPCC through a service agreement.
City Centre UPCC officially opened its doors to serve Vancouver residents on November 26, 2018.
The UPCC is located on the ground floor of the former Three Bridges Community Health Centre site at 1290 Hornby St and offers extended hours of care: 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sundays.
Focusing on Vancouver residents, the UPCC will provide same-day urgent care for patients with unexpected, non-life-threatening health concerns.
With the most urgent patients seen and cared for first, City Centre UPCC will provide care for those experiencing injuries and illnesses such as: sprains and strains; cuts, wounds or skin conditions; high fever; infections, including chest, ear and urinary tract; asthma attacks; new or worsening pain; dehydration/constipation; and less serious child illness and injury.
The UPCC is not intended to replace family physicians, nurse practitioners, or Community Health Centre primary care providers as a person’s first point of contact for health concerns, nor will it replace our Emergency Departments for life-threatening illnesses or injuries, rather, it is intended to be an additional service in the community, working in concert with all touch points for care to provide appropriate urgent services to patients, when and where they need it. We are very happy to be able to take this opportunity to expand and enhance care in this community through the City Centre UPCC.
